How To Learn Magic Tricks Biography

The program wasn’t simply a history lesson, however. Miller called on members of his young audience to assist him as he performed some of the same tricks Dickens did in his public appearances. They could be assured Dickens had done those tricks, Miller said, because people who attended his shows wrote descriptions of them in letters to friends.

Writing letters to friends was “an early form of texting,” he told the children

As he spoke and performed, Miller stood in front of a portable fireplace and mantel that contained volumes of Dickens’ books printed in the mid-19th century.

He also told the children about a couple, Al and Vickie, who lived in London when Dickens was writing. They introduced the Christmas tree to England from Al’s native Germany. They were Prince Albert and Queen Victoria who also changed how people throughout the English-speaking world still celebrate Christmas. The queen became of of Dickens’ biggest fans.

After Miller’s one-hour program, the children set to work creating ornaments for their own Christmas trees.

The great producer, Bill Moore, took his last curtain call in the Spring. Mr. Moore was a man of many talents – starting with that of a chorus dancer in London’s West End. He ended up blasting through history in Vegas with the first nude review show – Nudes On Ice. A visionary, a great friend and my true mentor. He was always there to help me unconditionally and give me insight into the latest happenings in our town. We will all miss you, Bill...RIP.

Also to be missed, Rene de Haven, terpsichore phenomenon, who can still be seen in the great 1950 MGM musicals as a young man. Dance your way to heaven, Rene.

Just in is the sad news that two of the best and most beloved character actors of film and television, Charles Durning and Jack Klugman, have also passed away. Unfortunately the list keeps growing.

On the opposite side of positive, we had the all those endless poker shows (I would prefer Polka, Liberace, Pawn (or is it Porn?) Stars to Sin City Rules on reality. Who are these Housewives of Las Vegas? I recognize Alicia Jacobs, but she’s not as well-known in the national media as your truly! Lana Fuchs – they spelled your name wrong! Too much botox in the forehead – looks swollen like a watermelon...you’re too young and yet, too old, for this self-abusing treatment.

One of the better shows is Gigolo’s on Showtime – even men tune in to see if they can learn any of the tricks of the trade to entrance their partners. I am a former gay gigolo and this series is loosely based on what goes on under those covers.

I also want to mention the loss of the new wave of the 1960’s – the changing of the old guard hair dresser, who became the stylist, developer of products. Simply put, Vidal Sassoon. By the way, Vidal served in the Israeli Army when it was his call for duty.

It doesn't get any better for a young hockey player than representing the United States at the World Junior Hockey Championships.

Eighteen-year-old Ryan Hartman of West Dundee is doing exactly that — for the second year in a row.

Ryan, a center, is playing with the under-20 USA national hockey team at the International Ice Hockey Federal World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia. Ryan — the second-youngest player on the team — scored a goal Wednesday to help Team USA top the Czech Republic 7-0, setting up a semifinal match today against a Canadian squad that includes several players who'd be in the NHL today if not for the league's lockout.

Last year, he won a gold medal with USA's under-18 hockey team.

"It's been awesome so far. I met a lot of top end guys in the tournament," Ryan said. "I don't really feel the pressure too much, I just like to have fun with it. I don't think too much about it. I just play how I play."

But that's not all — this summer, the young man known for his grit and determination was recruited to play for the Ontario Hockey League's Plymouth Whalers. Before that, he spent two seasons with USA Hockey's national team development program based in Ann Arbor, Mich., which features many of the top young players in the country on under-17 and under-18 teams.
